How Steam Power Changed Ocean Voyaging (Lecture)
Sunday, April 22nd,
2 PM to 3 pm
Old Grace Church/Massapequa Historical Complex
The title of our April 22nd presentation will be "How Steam Power Changed Ocean Voyaging." The speaker will be John Lawrence Busch, the author of Steam Coffin: Captain Moses Rogers and the Steamship Savannah Break the Barrier. His book is a detailed account of the first steam-powered transatlantic crossing. Mr. Busch has uncovered and used extensive sources from the United States and Northern Europe to explain both the intricacies of steam-powered sailing and the attitudes of those who either opposed or favored this revolutionary mode of travel. He will speak at Old Grace Church beginning at 2 PM and will have copies of his book for sale.
